Lookfantastic X Illamasqua Beauty Box Test & Review

I love a good beauty box!! They are a great way to try out lots of products that you’ve never tried before, try out a brand you’ve never tried before, or just stock up on some of your favourite products! Not to mention that often, the boxes save you a lot of money when compared to buying the products separately, and some often contain perfect travel friendly sized products.

Today I am going to be reviewing the new Lookfantastic X Illamasqua beauty box. Titled the ‘Illamusthaves’ it contains 6 of Illamasqua’s must have products. 4 are mini sized and 2 are full sized. I will go through each product with you, tell you the description Illamasqua gives about each one, and tell you exactly what I thought about how they performed! This box will set you back Β£35, purchasable from the Lookfantastic website. It contains over Β£80 worth of Illamasqua products so it’s great value for money. Il come back to that at the end of the review 😊

Illamasqua

For those of you not familiar with Illamasqua, it is a brand that is based in the UK and all of their makeup and products are cruelty free.Β Their philosophy is: ‘A British beauty brand that stands out from the crowd, using self-expression, creativity and pushing the boundaries of makeup.’

This is the first time I had tried any of Illamasqua’s products, so I didn’t know what to expect. I decided to sit down and do my makeup from start to finish using everything in the box along the way. This is how I got on……

Packaging

I always have to mention packaging, and that’s simply because it plays a massive part to me in my decision when buying makeup. I want my makeup to stand out and look expensive, and it doesn’t have to always be high end makeup to do that. Luckily for me in this case I wasn’t disappointed.

The box itself is glossy and high quality as you can see from the featured image. The word ‘Illamusthaves’ is embossed and stands out. I can see myself keeping the box and using it to store some of my other makeup which is great!

What’s inside

img_0618.jpg

When you open the box up, you’re first of all greeted with a magazine. This magazine contains information about each of the products that you get in the box, information on other products sold by Illamasqua and some more information about the brand. On the inside of the lid is a little bit of information on the brand.

Under the magazine is the main event! Once you open the tissue paper, there is your 6 products just waiting to be played with. They are displayed very nicely and the layout looks gorgeous.

I decided to go through them in order of the way I would do my makeup. So lets start with…..

Mini Hydra Veil Rehydrating Gel Primer

img_0627.jpg

First up is the Hydra veil primer. This is a mini size at 8ml. The packaging is SO CUTE. It’s round which is unusual but I like that its a bit different.

Illamasqua’s description: “Part hydrator, part primer, Hydra Veil instantly hydrates and smooths skin through a self-levelling, futuristic clear gel. Microalgae, Vitamin C and B3 work together to help maintain skins hydration levels, creating a healthy looking, balanced finish. Plant extracts also provide a calming and refreshing feeling, leaving skin fully prepped to apply your chosen foundation.”

The consistency is like no other primer I have ever tried. The only thing I can think that it reminds me of is jelly! It has a very jelly like consistency. At first that weirded me out and I wondered how it would feel on my skin, but as soon as I applied it, it spread nicely and felt quite tacky which I like for a primer. In regards to longevity it gives to my foundation, I had my makeup on all day and I did notice it lasted well.

The primer gets a yes from me βœ…

Mini Gel Sculpt in shade Silhouette

img_0634.jpg

Next up is the mini gel sculpt and this is in the shade silhouette. The packaging is very nice and neat, with a black high gloss finish. When I first took the lid off, I was shocked at how dark the product looked. However, when I swatched it on my hand, it was a lot lighter than I expected. The consistency, once again is very different to a normal contour stick. I guess its due to the gel within the product.

Illamasqua’s description: “Gel Sculpt in Silhouette is a unique contouring gel creation that offers subtle definition to cheeks with ease. The hue of Silhouette creates a delicate shadow under cheekbones and along the jawline which can be blended with ease to achieve beautiful, natural contours.”

I applied it using the stick and drew a line where I would normally contour. The colour and pigment pay off was pretty good, and it had a slight cooling sensation on the skin which was unexpected but pleasant enough. I would normally buff out my contour using a damp beauty blender, but I found this didn’t blend the product out as well as I hoped.

I ended up using my finger instead, which I normally don’t like doing but it blended out the product much better. I would say the contour looked like it had a greyish undertone on me, which looked slightly strange on my skin. I did wonder if any of the other gel sculpt shades would have suited me a bit better but after looking into it, this is the only shade that is available for contouring. I guess that’s one issue when buying a beauty box, you might not get on with all the shades of products contained.

One thing I did like is that it was a perfect size to put in your handbag or rucksack, its a perfect travel sized product unlike my contour kits/palettes which are a bit more hefty to be carrying around.

Even though I personally didn’t think the shade suited my skin tone, as a product I am going to give this a yes as well as I think it might suit some other people a lot more βœ…

Mini Gel liner in Infinity & Fine Liner Brush and Cover

Products 3 and 4 work together of course, so the fine liner brush is used to apply the gel liner.

The fine liner brush is full sized, and it is GORGEOUS!

IMG_0625

The finish, once again is black high gloss. It looks and feels expensive. And the brush tip itself is so so thin! As you can see from the picture, it is perfect for applying eyeliner and doing sharp wings.

Illamasqua’s description: “A fine eye liner brush which is ideal for make-up bags and travel as it is stored in its own detachable handle to protect the brush when stored. Perfect to create a controlled flick eye liner style.”

Nothing more to say about this brush really apart from it applied the gel liner with precision and ease it definitely gets a yes from me βœ…

On to the gel liner, I was surprised by how big the container or product was. It honestly looks full sized to me, compared to other full sized gel liners that I have seen.

IMG_0632

This is a mini size, with 3g worth of product, however the full size from Illamasqua is only 5g so you are getting a lot of product included in this box.

Illamasqua’s description: “The eyeliner soon to be the mainstay in the make-up bags of every beauty enthusiast, Precision Gel Liner in Infinity recreates the fluidity of a liquid liner in the ease of a gel. Creating a smooth, rich black line from the first application, the long-lasting and water-resistant formula is guaranteed to stay in place all day.”

Once opened, the gel looks jet black, which I LOVE. I dampened the precision brush with some water, and created a simple wing and the product went on very easily and looked super black. This could be my new go-to gel liner so it gets a definite yes from me.Β βœ…

Look at the featured image on this review and you can see the way the wing turned out ❀️

Mini Mascara in shade Raven

Next up is the mascara. This is also mini sized with 4ml of product.

IMG_0633

Illamasqua’s description: “If the eyes are the windows of the soul, Illamasqua Masquara in Raven reveals a heart of darkness with a formula that lengthens, defines and dramatises lashes to extremes – the ultimate mascara.”

The same high gloss packaging makes this look expensive and classy.Β The applicator is quite large, which isn’t my favourite type of mascara wand as I find it harder to do the lower lashes and get into the corner of my eyes but it did a good enough job. It applied very black which is a plus, and once thing I loved is that it separated my lashes! Yay! I hate it when mascaras apply thick and clump all your lashes together! It is so annoying. It lengthened my lashes quite a bit, but not as much as other mascaras such as benefit’s new Bad Gal bang.

Overall, this mascara definitely does what it says on the tin and still gets a yes from me βœ…

Full sized AntimatterΒ Lipstick in shade Bang

This lipstick is 100% my favourite product in the box. I honestly have not stopped raving about it since I tried it out.

IMG_0631IMG_0635

Illamasqua’s description:Β “Long lasting, colour intense lipsticks with a semi-matte cushioned finish. Half-way between matte and satin, Antimatter lipsticks glide onto lips smoothly and provide comfortable, continuous wear.”

The packaging is STUNNING!!! I’ve long been a fan of the classy, expensive looking finish of Mac lipsticks, and this lipstick looks just as great if not even better. I think this would look so classy in a makeup bag/handbag.

I LOVE a nude lipstick. Being a boy, they are a lot more wearable on a day to day basis than a bright lipstick to me. And it’s a colour I would love to wear to an event or a night out rather than than just for a ‘look’ that I create for my YouTube channel.

I honestly feel like this lipstick is so flattering for my skin tone, which is light to medium. It applied like an absolute dream, and like Illamasqua’s description, it looked neither matte nor satin, rather a hybrid of something in-between. It didn’t dry my lips out at all, and felt very comfortable all day long.

One thing I will note is that it does not dry down completely like a matte lipstick, so it will transfer slightly, be aware of that.

Overall, this lipstick gets a 100% yes from me βœ…

Final Thoughts

As you can all probably tell by now, I LOVE this beauty box. I got to try out 6 new products I had never tried before, and have enjoyed using all of them with a few becoming staples in my makeup collection.

The lipstick alone is Β£20 separately, and the fine liner brush is Β£19.50. So for those 2 products, you’ve already payed more than what this box costs.Β At Β£35, but with over Β£80 worth of products inside, this box is a massive steal and I would recommend going to buy it as it is limited edition. You don’t want to miss out!

In true style of my YouTube reviews, this box gets a Max’s Look HELL YES

Il place my YouTube review at the bottom of the page, which shows me using all of the products in the box 😊 And also the link you can use to purchase the box πŸ“¦

Max xoxo
