I know I’m a bit late to the game with this one but I finally got my hands on the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Platinum Ice Skin Frost Pro Palette!!!
When I saw Jeffree Star announce these palettes as part of his holiday 2017 collection I knew I NEEDED to get my hands on them. I always wanted to try Jeffree’s skin frosts however, living in the UK, Jeffree’s makeup can be difficult to get hold of over here or very expensive.
The site which I normally get my American and worldwide makeup from – Beauty Bay, held a 48 hour Jeffree Star Cosmetics sale recently and I thought why the heck not! I picked this bad boy up for £28, which was £7 off the full price of £35. In comparison to the price on Jeffree’s website, he charges $40. So the mark-up is quite extreme if you want to get hold of his makeup.
However, I have NEVER regretted a Jeffree Star Cosmetics purchase to date! Jeffree is somewhat of an idol to me. I know he can be caught in controversial topics at times, but looking past all of that, he is one of the main reasons I got into makeup and YouTube in general. His attitude of doing whatever he wants and whatever makes him happy spoke to me. Anywayyyyy….back to the review!
He announced two of the pro palettes and both looked gorgeous. However, being light to medium toned in skin, I thought this palette looked more suitable for me.
Lets get on with the review ❤️
If you know me well, then you know I’m a SUCKER for good packaging. Show me something shiny or sparkly and I will probably want it! Jeffree doesn’t disappoint here. From the pictures and videos I saw online I really didn’t think the packaging looked that great, to be honest it looked fairly plastic-y and cheap. Hence why I was so shocked to absolutely love it in person. It has a hefty weight to it, and it feels expensive. Honestly it does.
When you open the palette the fun continues. Your greeted with a huge mirror that is very clear and super handy! I absolutely love it when companies include mirrors in their palettes. It makes application more straightforward without having to reach for a different mirror!
Then below are 6 HUGE pans with the 6 different highlighter shades. I was honestly shocked how big the pans were for such a slim palette. I understand that the pans are no where near as big as the normal skin frosts but it is important to remember here that you are getting 6 different highlighters as opposed to one and the price is unbeatable in that respect.
In regards to actual numbers regarding pan size each shade is 7g in weight which equates to 0.24 OZ. That’s a decent size for a highlighting palette.
Pigmentation and feel
Before I apply highlighters to my face, I like to do finger swatches. It just gives me an idea for pigmentation and the feel for the product.
I dipped into each shade with a different finger and let me just say that these feel BUTTERY. I am all about a buttery highlighter. I don’t like it when highlighters are over powdery and have huge fallout. So I was happy about that. These are pressed not baked which normally means they would be less creamy so I suppose with Jeffree’s formula there is something that gives them the creaminess. I thought I would mention as well for anyone wondering that it states the highlighters are Vegan, Cruelty-free, talc free, Paraben and Gluten-Free.
Each shade swatched on my arm with very high pigmentation. Il put a picture below so you can see each shade and how they swatched. In order we have Ice Cold, Glacier, Lavender Snow, Alien Ice, Pink Chill and Canary Bling. I love these colours! They are so different to any other highlighting colours I’ve seen. I can imagine they would be so fun to use as eyeshadow too.
Now onto the main event! Face application:
I couldn’t apply all 6 shades to my face unfortunately as I didn’t have enough space haha, so I decided to dip into some of the shades that stood out to me the most.
I applied all highlighters with a dry highlighting brush.
Top image: On my cheek is Alien Ice. I adore this shade. I didn’t expect it to be as wearable as it is. Who would have thought green highlighter would work! However it’s turned out to be my favourite shade from the palette. On my brow bone is Canary Bling. This shade is very golden and stunning swatched on my arm or used on my cheekbone however I thought it was slightly too dark on my brow bone. Trial and error people! 😊
Bottom image: On my cheek is Ice Cold. This shade is BLINDING! I went in very hard with it and I loved the way it came out. It was very buildable and easy to apply. I would say that as this shade is so light it would be better suited for people with lighter skin tones when used as a highlighter. For my skin tone I think I just got away with it however in person it did look quite light. On my brow bone once again is Canary Bling.
I think you can probably tell by now that this is a win from me. Everything about this palette from the packaging, to the shade range and ease of application feels well thought out and expensive. Even though it may be a little more pricey than let’s say a drugstore highlighting palette, if you are willing to spend a little more it’s well worth the price.
In true fashion of my YouTube reviews, I’m giving this a Max’s Look HELL YESS!
Do let me know if any of you have tried this palette out and what you thought of it.
